![]() No more synopsis wise here lest I tip a plot card, but I can recommend this one, I like and plan to get the one follow up (this is apparently a duology). We are involved in the hunt for Santiago, the most wanted outlaw on the said frontier. Our story here is told from the point of view of multiple bounty hunters, a writer/reporter, some pure and simple scum-wads etc. ![]() There are lawmen, gunmen, wanted posters and of course.bounty hunters. The "farthest worlds" are the "frontier". This is another western/science fiction novel where all the facets of the "old American west" are present in the future's wide spread human worlds. You will I suspect be right at home here if you've read much science fiction. ![]() That said even if you do spot it, it's worth the ride. ![]() While I don't intend to give a spoiler (I like this book so I wouldn't ruin it for you) I suspect many if not most people who have read quite a lot will see where the book is going and it's surprise won't really be a surprise. I didn't know what I was getting into here. ![]()

![]() We see Safi is Empress of Cartorra and a Hell-Bard in the capital, Iseult is traveling with Owl, Vivia and Vaness are together still but are unable to garner any support for their quests to reclaim their thrones. Not with the characters who are temporarily out of commission side note: I missed Merik a lot throughout this book but am very excited for what happens with him in the last book. This book is very cleverly structured you are thrown into the book and immediately see that a lot has changed since the end of Bloodwitch. ![]() I really loved that this book had a link to recap's of the previous books at the beginning of the book! I skimmed it as it has been over a year since Bloodwitch, but I do also think that Dennard does a good job of reminding the reader of important information from the previous books (and the very important novella) before the reader needs that information for Witchshadow. Also, a prophesy, a slow-burn romance, a very in-depth magic system, and lots of queer characters. This is book four in a series, so if you haven't read the other three, I suggest you get thee to a copy of Truthwitch if you like high fantasy, multi-POV stories that have a core relationship that is a friendship. I have been massively into The Witchlands for years, and my god Witchshadow did not disappoint. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() His Kaywana trilogy-Children of Kaywana (1952), The Harrowing of Hubertus (1954), and Kaywana Blood (1958)-an imaginative account of a proud, violent family-is considered his finest work. A Morning at the Office (1950) is a coldly objective view of the absurdities of a tightly organized hierarchical colonial society. Corentyne Thunder (1941) is a traditionally written novel, but it deals with the spiritual schizophrenia of a protagonist torn between two conflicting loyalties. ![]() In his relatively short life, Mittelholzer published 22 novels, as well as other works. He was the first writer of his generation to emigrate from the West Indies and attempt a career as a serious novelist in England. His works represent the personal struggle between a sense of identification with European culture and a sense of identity as a West Indian. Of mixed Swiss and Creole heritage, Mittelholzer decided at an early age to become a writer. ![]() ![]() ![]() Write in the blank spaces and in between them. Some disappointments would be the fine line between Max?s feelings for Fang and Dylan, which remains the entire way till the end (though there is a vague attempt to scrub it away and pretend it never happened, as if Max was not completely comfortable/un-bothered/remorseless through the last however-many books about switching back and forth between boyfriends). In a pleasant turn of events, Nevermore is successful in being one of the few ?last-book-of-the-series? novels that actually answers a lot of questions instead of creating more and then trailing off into the end with them unanswered, such as who Max?s ?Voice? is(!). ![]() ![]() Fortunately, though, this last book makes a lot of things right, though I won?t disclose them all for the sake of those who haven?t read it yet. James Patterson (though he probably is unaware), lost a lot of readers a couple books back, when he ripped Fang away from the flock and tried to replace him with Dylan, and then stole Angel, and then Nudge as well (not necessarily in that order). ![]() I?ll admit that I was wary about the concluding book of the Maximum Ride series. ![]() ![]() It expands outward from Tubman's individual story to give a sweeping, historical vision of slavery. Paulo once again filled my soul with enlightening lessons, this time it was through a story about surrendering ourselves so love and life can flow freely through us. The only way for him to release his Zahir and allow love back in was to learn how to release his old story and fill it with new and invigorating experiences. ![]() In his journey, he was forced to step outside of the world he grew accustomed to and into her world and everything she cared deeply about. Was she kidnapped, murdered, or did she simply escape a marriage that no longer fulfilled her? He needed to know why she left, where he went wrong to lose her, and how to transform himself to allow a space for her to come back into his life. As he lived further and further from sight of this virtue, his wife disappeared, and for two years she became his obsession, or, his ‘Zahir’. The Zahir is a story of a married man who lost the virtue of love. The narrator is a famous (spiritual) writer living in Paris and enjoying the privileges of wealth and success ( for that reason it was easy to imagine it being Paulo’s autobiography). The Zahir is a fiction story, which feels way more like nonfiction.
